White Lily in a dark night 2003

This is a dark painting with a bright spotlight on white lily. This pastel was an experiment on how much one can push on contrast to illustrate a feeling, a feeling of hope in the midst of darkness. Waterlilies series was wholly inspired by an impromptu visit to Paris and Giverny.
